6 Ways to Prevent & Treat Mommy Headaches

It's hard to be a good mom when you have a splitting headache. More and more people are experiencing migraine headaches which can be debilitating. You cannot properly take care of your family or your home when your head is pounding.

It's common to reach for Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, or other various over the counter drugs to numb the pain. And while they do help reduce pain, they also
increase the risk for other health problems.

I don't know about you, but I have enough to do without adding harmful drug side-affects to my body.

What to do?

For Prevention
Up your nutrition so your body can do its job. God made our bodies fearfully and wonderfully! But when it doesn't have proper nutrition, it will suffer and have trouble.

One study has shown that people who have good levels of Riboflavin are at reduced risk of migraines, so eating foods with high levels of this nutrient can actually ward off headaches. Foods with high levels of Riboflavin are asparagus, mushrooms, eggs, cheese, spinach, oily fish, sesame seeds, almonds and shellfish.

Many of these ingredients can be enjoyed in a simple omelette. :-)
I love mushroom spinach omelettes! Mmm mm.

For Treating a Headache
Feverfew.  If you or someone in your home suffers with headaches periodically, you will want to keep a bottle of this amazing herb in your medicine arsenal at all times.  Feverfew has been known to stop or reduce a migraine in it's tracks.

It's also a good idea to keep a bottle of Activated Charcoal capsules in your home. You can Google the many benefits. This is not to be confused with regular charcoal that you use for a grill! :)  You should be able to find Activated Charcoal capsules at your local health food store or online. I keep some in a small pill container in my purse for emergencies.

Taking 4-8 capsules of activated charcoal at the first sign of headache or any illness (2 hours after a meal and 2 hours before eating) works really well. AC has the amazing ability to soak up toxins and carry them safely out of your body. Some people take it daily as a preventative. But it can cause constipation so always increase your water intake accordingly.

One of the most common remedies for a headache is WATER. Yes, plain old water. Drinking 16 oz of filtered fresh water will often decrease or eliminate a headache or migraine. Dehydration is often at the heart of most headaches, so it's always helpul (and smart) to drink a couple glasses of pure water at the first sign of a headache.

Other reasons for headaches a lack of sleep. It's cliche, but it's true. Get at least 8 hrs per night. If you have trouble with insomnia, try taking a Moon Drops losenge before bed.

And in the morning, a nice cup of coffee or green tea has been known to help a headache as well.

It pays to eat well and learn how to take care of your family.
Have a blessed day!

Magnesium will help too. I tend to have really bad migraines when I'm pregnant. I started taking the magnesium supplement from "ConcenTrace" (a dropper-full mixed into my green smoothies) when I was pregnant with my third baby and had no migraines!
Awesome tip, Jessica, thank you for sharing that! Do you think that magnesium supplements (softgels, etc) would be just as effective? I have some in my cupboard and I wonder what if one capsule is equivalent to one dropper-full.

You know, I have no idea. I just read that magnesium would help and bought one that looked good. The bottle says that 4 droppers is equal to 400 mg. So I'd get 100 mg (not including amounts from other foods) and that was enough to help me. It's worth trying!
Good to know! Thanks so much for sharing the equivalents with us, that is very helpful. I'm going to remember magnesium next time!
