Our Homeschool Schedule

Here is our current academics schedule for homeschooling.  We follow this Monday through Thursday and it's been working wonderfully.  They time their breaks with our kitchen timers.

Bible Time With Daddy

Fridays are our Fun Days.  We either do some special planned activities on this day or just have free time.
Each Friday night is our family night when I make two homemade pizzas and we eat in the living room on trays and watch an old movie.  It is a fun way to have clean entertainment at home (especially when we have very tiny yard space for outdoor activities).  I hope that one day when we do have some land to spread out on, we can expand the horizons of our friday fun nights to include better choices.  But for now, this is what we do.

To round out our homeschooling program, we are members of a nice homeschool group and participate in field trips, presentation days and other activities with the group. We are members of HSLDA as well and abide by all current government homeschooling.  We also encourage our children's natural interests as much as possible.

For example, our 12 yr old is highly interested in mechanical things, especially automobile engines, so we recently put an ad on craigslist asking for a donated motor and the Lord blessed him with one!  It is from a lawn edger so it is the perfect size for him to begin work on.  His assignment is to completely take it apart and put it back together again. In this way he will learn all about how motors work and become familiar with all of the parts, their names and how they go together.  Eventually, he hopes to build his own Go Cart using this motor.

Our 14 yr old interests revolve mainly around music and writing and he currently plays guitar and piano and has written numerous original compositions both literary and musical.  We also got him a Dana Alphasmart word processor so he can write his stories anytime without needing to be on a computer.  It can run for 6 hours on 2 AA batteries so he can even bring it with him on outings. It has downloading capabilities so he can transfer his work onto our home computer when he's ready to print his works or just for longer term storage.
